LEARNING NEVER ENDS
Continuum offers an amazing array of educational opportunities to
advance our nurses’ careers. With courses taught within our
hospitals, at our nursing schools and at the Offices of Continuing
Education at Beth Israel or St. Luke’s-Roosevelt, nurses can
be sure to find a class that meets their interest, scheduling and
career needs.
At basic, intermediate and advanced levels, our courses range from
half- and full-day onsite recertification classes to Critical Care
courses that last two weeks. Nurses can choose from day, evening and
weekend classes that cover current medical, surgical or clinical topics,
management and personal development, alternative care trends, and
a full range of computer instruction. Our courses even draw nurses
in from hospitals outside Continuum.
In addition, we have two of the country’s oldest and most venerated
nursing schools within our health partnership: Phillips Beth Israel
School of Nursing and the Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing.
Both are fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting
Commission, and are committed solely to the education of nurses. Affiliated
with other city institutions of higher learning (like New York University,
Pace University and St. Francis College), they offer Continuum Graduate
nurses even more educational opportunities, including the ability
to apply existing credits towards a BS degree.
Nursing education moves into the spotlight in May during Nurse Recognition
Week. Mixing together educational programs with fairs, meals, award
presentations and high-profile speakers (Senator Hillary Clinton spoke
in 2003), Continuum makes sure our nurses know how much they are valued.
